Three in a row for Northern Jewel

Aug 10, 2016

Gold Front’s NORTHERN JEWEL makes it 3 from 3, with another win yesterday at the Broome Turf Club on Ladies Day.

It was an impressive win by the 6-year-old gelding, who led from start to finish and pulled away from the field at the 200m mark to win by 3 lengths. Northern Jewel had also won at Derby on the 16th of July and Broome on the 22nd of July.

Originally trained by Anthony Cummings at Randwick, the Northern Meteor gelding showed promise early, running 4th in the Group 2 VRC Sires as a 2YO, beaten narrowly by Twilight Royale and champion 3-year-old Shamus Award.

Northern Jewel finally broke through and won his maiden as a 4-year-old at Hawksbury in November 2014 before being sold to Gold Front to race from their WA stable.

After having 6 starts at WA’s provincial racetracks under trainer Brent Albuino, Northern Jewel travelled up North with owner Alan Olive and trainer Ian Albuino for the annual Broome race season. The pair took a team of 10 horses this year, with Northern Jewel being the stand out performer.

The gelding has shown promising signs up norths and looks to have thrived on the Broome lifestyle.
