October has been an exciting month for Gold Front with Awesome Rock and Excess Knowledge mixing it with the best in Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival. Both horses have produced some very promising runs in some very competitive races.

Excess Knowledge ran 3rd in the Group 3 Bart Cummings over 2500m at Flemington on the 2nd October. He was beaten by 2 lengths by Almandin, who went on to win this year’s Melbourne Cup. His next run was in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup on Cox Plate Day. Excess Knowledge produced another strong performance to run 4th.

Awesome Rock has had 2 Group 1 runs this month, finishing 5th in both the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield and 5th in the Cox Plate.

This year’s Cox Plate was a top-class race and no one was every going to get close to the champion mare Winx. It was fantastic to say we were there to run against Winx when she demolished the field by 8 lengths in the 2016 Cox Plate. It was a race that will be remembered for a very long time.

Awesome Rock’s full sister Elite Rock is now back in Western Australia and has her first start under trainer Brent Albuino tomorrow at Northam. She is in good order and looks like a horse to follow over the coming months.

SMALLAMOUNTOFMERIT (Demerit x Missy Moonshine) had her first start at Geraldton on the 6th October for trainer Meryl Hayley. The 3YO filly came out victorious beating My Brother Pencil by ¾ lengths, running home down the outside and producing a huge run out of nowhere. Smallamountofmerit has now had 3 race starts and finished in the money on all 3 occasions. She looks to be a handy horse for connections.

Consistent galloper HAY MAGIC (Blackfriars x Hayley’s Image) got over the line by a head for Albie Beckett and owners at Northam on the 23rd October. In a thrilling finish Hay Magic came the back of the field for apprentice Shelby Bowtell as she was able to get her head in front right on the line.
The Blackfriars mare was purchased for $7000 at the 2014 Perth Winter Yearling Sale and has gone on to have 2 wins and 5 seconds from 14 starts.

Gold Front’s trainer Brent Albuino competed in the inaugural ‘Race The Wild Coast’ in South Africa this month. The 350km from Port Edward to Kei Mouth race saw riders and their team of 3 horses navigating through the challenging wilderness, swim rivers and keep their horses fit for vet checks.

Congratulations Brent on finishing 6th in this extremely challenging race.

Thank you to everyone who came out to our owner’s open day on Sunday. It was a great morning and it was fantastic for people to be able to see the changes in their horses since they last saw them.

Our next open day will be in December.
