Gold Front graduate set for Gimcrack Stakes

Feb 27, 2015

Gold Front bred filly Jevilla opened her career with a courageous victory at Ascot on Wednesday.

Jevilla (2f Reward For Effort – Princess Baxaar by Xaar) is trained and owned by Elva Van Merwyk in partnership with Jill Lewis. She jumped straight to the front for Kyra Yuill in the Westspeed Hcp (1000m) and refused to give in when tackled by Danerip’s Girl (Alfred Nobel) and Orbit the Sun (Planet Five).

“There was a lot of speed in the race so it was always going to be hard to cross,” Yuill said. “She did more work than I wanted but toughed it out super.”

Jevilla is a half-sister to the Sydney winner The Alfonso (Magnus) and cost $26,000 at the 2014 Perth Magic Millions. She will start next in the G3 Gimcrack Stakes at Ascot on March 14 before connections decide whether to continue towards the G2 Karrakatta Plate.

Gold Front owners Alan and Sue Olive bought her dam Princess Baxaar for a bargain $5,000 at a 2012 Perth Mixed Sale. After foaling Jevilla, she died the following May.

The Gingin nursery sold 14 of the 18 yearlings it offered at the Perth Magic Millions earlier this month. Top price was a Charge Forward colt that made $62,500 to the bid of Victorian buyer John Wall.

Gold Front has more entries for the Melbourne Premier Sale starting this Sunday including a Snitzel filly (Lot 191) and a Sepoy colt (Lot 512).
