Long term plan pays off with Danaura

The Brent Albuino-trained Danaura has taken out the Gannon’s 100 Club-Mandurah Cup (1409m) in impressive fashion at Pinjarra on Sunday.

Albuino made his intentions clear to run the five-year-old in the $50,000 feature, after he won the Grandstand Cup three weeks earlier.

Dominant last start Ascot winner Need A Lift was sent out as the favourite for the feature event, but lacked the turn-of-foot required to run down Danaura, and finished sixth.

Danaura was sent to the front by Renee Forrest from barrier nine, and never looked back as he recorded a half-length victory over the closing Singing Skies, with Low Tide back in third.

Danaura possesses an impressive career record of six wins and seven minor placings from 25 career starts.

After Danaura’s win in the Grandstand Cup three weeks ago, Albuino indicated the Listed Pinjarra Classic could be a potential target for the galloper if he was to perform well in the Mandurah Cup.

Albuino’s only other runner on the eight event card was Missilpop, who managed an impressive second behind the Paul Jordan-trained Mysticity.
